Accounting Manager

AirbyteFinance & Accounting

Job Description

Airbyte is the data and action layer for AI agents. We give agents fast, accurate, authenticated access to business data across hundreds of sources, so they can discover the entities that matter, reason over real-time context, and take action in the systems they read from, not just observe them.

We started as the open-source standard for data movement and proved the economics of data integration at scale: hundreds of connectors, thousands of companies, and, since 2020, have raised $181M from leading investors including Benchmark, Accel, Altimeter, Coatue, and Y Combinator. As our CEO Michel Tricot puts it, "the last ten years were all about structured data. The future is all about context." We're now building that context infrastructure for production-grade agents on the same open foundation, as agents become the primary consumers of enterprise data.

Our mission is unchanged: make data available and actionable to everyone, everywhere. That everyone now includes AI agents.

The Role

As Airbyte's Accounting Manager, you’ll own the day-to-day of our accounting operations and reporting - and you’ll help us rebuild how that work gets done, replacing manual processes and outsourced accounting firm dependencies with clean, automated, in-house workflows.

We currently run a lean model with an outsourced accounting firm and a Senior Accountant. You’ll manage both, and over time help us bring accounting back in-house - taking ownership of more of the function as you go. You’ll report directly to the Director of Finance (who reports to the COO) as a thought partner on automating our close and operations, and you’ll have real room to experiment with modern tooling and AI to do it.

We're hiring someone with the intention of investing in their long-term growth. As the business evolves, this role is expected to take on increasing ownership and responsibility, with the opportunity to help shape and ultimately lead the accounting function over time. If you want to build a modern accounting function - not just maintain one - this is that seat.

What You’ll Do

  • Own accounting operations and reporting - GL, AP/AR, and the general ledger close - with accuracy, timeliness, and US GAAP compliance; you’ll operate with high ownership and strong judgment.
  • Run the month-end close, and continuously shorten and automate it.
  • Manage a Senior Accountant and our outsourced accounting team, and help lead the transition of work in-house over time.
  • Prepare for and support external audits, including documentation, technical accounting memos, and internal controls.
  • Apply and help maintain technical accounting policies, including revenue recognition under ASC 606 and lease accounting under ASC 842.
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and workflows - reducing manual work and building for scale.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Support to keep accounting accurate across our business systems.
  • Act as a thought partner to the Director of Finance on automating close and operations, including using AI where it drives real impact.
  • Grow into broader ownership of the accounting function as the business scales.
  • Perform and review detailed flux and variance analysis, identifying and proactively investigating unexpected trends or anomalies in our financials.

What You’ll Need

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Ideally a Big 4 audit and startup combined background.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606) and lease accounting (ASC 842).
  • Strong systems instincts - you’ve evaluated, implemented, or redesigned accounting workflows and tools, and you reach for automation before manual effort.
  • Tech-savvy and genuinely AI-curious - you’ve explored (or are eager to explore) how automation and AI can transform accounting, and you like building.
  • An operational, ownership mindset - pragmatic, solution-oriented, and able to work autonomously. Startups move fast, so the ability to adapt and learn quickly is key.
  • A people person. We have a strong culture and care about bringing in teammates who fit in and make it better.

Nice To Have

  • CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
  • Experience implementing or migrating to a new ERP system.
  • Experience with PLG and/or enterprise SaaS revenue models.
  • Familiarity with our stack: NetSuite, Rillet, Campfire, Ramp, Carta, Orb, and Claude Code.
  • Experience with auditing.

Location

  • Onsite 4 days/week in San Francisco, CA

How to apply

The Apply button opens Airbyte's own application page in a new browser tab — applying is free, and this board never sits between you and the employer: no middleman, no form of ours to fill first.

This posting runs on Ashby, the applicant tracking system behind Airbyte's job board — the form you'll see lives at jobs.ashbyhq.com. It asks for the basics first: your name, email, and a résumé/CV upload. After that come the custom questions this employer wrote for the role — Ashby lets each team tailor its application, and some postings add a short questionnaire on top, so set aside a few quiet minutes rather than a thirty-second sprint. Because the questions change per role, re-read the requirements above before you start typing; answers that echo the exact skills the listing names are the ones that survive screening. Two practical notes: apply promptly while the posting is verified live, since teams close applications once a role fills, and use one email address for the application so your details stay under one identity.

Before you start

Tailor your résumé to the skills this listing names — employers screen for the requirements they wrote.
Have your work-authorization details ready — citizenship, visas, and right-to-work countries come up on remote applications.
Use the listed range ($133k to $173k) as your anchor in salary talk — the employer published it, so it is a fair opening number.

Salary context

The listed range of $133k to $173k a year sits about 9% above the board-wide median for Finance & Accounting roles on this board.

That median is $126,000 to $157,500 a year, based on 15 live listings where the employer publishes an annual USD range — the same rules as the board's salary report.

The parsed benefits on this listing include Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, 401(k) Match, and more — equity is among them, so total compensation can extend beyond this base range.
